The Nigerian Canadian Muslim Association is one of the prominent Islamic centers in Toronto, Ontario. Established in 1995, it was founded by a group of Nigerian immigrants who recognized the need for a dedicated place of worship for the Muslim community. With a growing number of attendees, the association has become the largest concentration of Muslims with Nigerian heritage in Canada.
In its early stages, the congregation gathered in members' apartments or rented spaces. However, in June 2003, the association purchased its own property, the Ansar ul-Islam Mosque on Milvan Drive, Unit 7 North York. Currently, efforts are underway to acquire a larger and more spacious facility to accommodate the ever-expanding membership, including hundreds of children and youth.
As a Sunni Muslim organization, the Nigerian Canadian Muslim Association welcomes individuals from all backgrounds who seek to practice Islam. English is the primary language used for communication within the community, ensuring that everyone can participate and engage in activities. The mosque is known to be kid-friendly, providing an inclusive environment for families.
The Nigerian Canadian Muslim Association stands as a beacon of faith and unity within the Toronto Muslim community. It continues to fulfill its mission of promoting congregational prayer and providing a place for Muslims of Nigerian descent and others to connect with their spirituality. With ongoing fundraising efforts, the association is steadfast in its commitment to secure a larger and more suitable space to cater to its growing membership.
