Asha Islamic Center

ASHA is a (registered charity) voluntary organisation to assist the BAME community in the London Borough of Newham through the provision of advice, information and guidance, supplementary and homework tuition, prayer session and Islamic education classes for the local Muslim community.

The organisation was established in year 2000 by M.Sadruzzaman khan in response to the local residents and parents demand for a better supplementary and homework tuition provision in the area for the local BAME students who were underachieved in mainstream education. Initiative was taken by Mr Khan but the local residents and BAME parents in the area were the main driving force behind the organisation success. Mr Khan started the project form his house 21 Sixth Avenue, E12 5PP and did run home work tuition and supplementary education classes at the weekend Saturdays, Sundays for the benefits of the local BAME children. Gradually the project was expanded and the ASHA moves its activities in to the Froud Community Centre in Manor park in order to accommodate more children and provide better services to the wider community with the help of local residents and parents and subsequently ASHA managed to secure funding form the London Borough of Newham for the NEET(not in employment, education and training) young people in the area. Since Established ASHA moved to various locations due to the lack of a permanent base. Finally, ASHA managed to secure a venue on its own at the 49 Station Road, E12 5BP on the lease provision from a private landlord in 2007. With the blessing and support of the local BAME and Muslim communities ASHA expand its activities and now established a full pleasant prayer centre for the benefit of the local Muslim community. Recently ASHA managed to secure D1 class permission from the LBN in order to use the property for Muslim religious worship place.
