Starting from a very urgent necessity of Muslim communities from Indonesia at the end of the 90s, to be able to have a centre as a centre of spiritual and community activities, the Indonesian Muslim community which is very diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnic, educational, how to worship, etc. along with the Consulate General in Melbourne, agreed to form IMCV as an agency/organization uniting people.

At the beginning of 1998, Indonesian Islamic groups, from across Victoria, began raising funds for IMCV. Consulate General in Melbourne, Indonesian students, and permanent residents had a very big role in these fund-raising activities by using its network in Indonesia.
