Masjid Al-Rabia

Masjid al-Rabia is a women-centered, BIPOC-led, and LGBTQ+ affirming Islamic community center in Chicago, IL with a mission to provide spiritual support for marginalized Muslims with healing justice practices in mind. In the aftermath of the Pulse shooting, we recognized the need for a space that catered to the needs and concerns of LGBTQ+ Muslims that often are not recognized by mainstream Queer or Muslim spaces. In December 2016, Masjid al-Rabia opened doors to its first Jummah prayer service led by a collective of LGBTQ+ Muslims in Chicago. Our Prison Ministry outreach program would grow to support more than four hundred incarcerated LGBTQ+ Muslim siblings by 2017.
